Asmara-Addis Literary Festival(In Exile)

Launching at the spectacular venue of Théâtre Molière, in the heart of Matonge, the second edition of the Asmara-Addis Literary Festival (In Exile) will kick off with an evening blurring the imagined or real boundaries between art and literature. The evening will feature a cast of acclaimed writers, musicians, poets, artists & an exhibition led by ENSAV La Cambre, School of visual art, including the Congolese Aime Mpane & Belgian Jean Pierre Muller.

Music: The evening will open with a performance by the Sierra Leonen-German singer/songwriter, Mariama Jalloh.

Musicality of Words: inspiration across genres: talk with Kalaf Epalanga, Angolan writer & musician; Publisher, writer & music journalist Magdalene Abraha; Sierra Leonen-German singer/songwriter, Mariama Jallohand; moderated by Molara Wood, a Nigerian writer, journalist and critic.

Poetry: UK-based Sawti project & its founder the poet Sumia Jama are crossing the channel with renowned & award-winning poets Amina Jama & Alycia Pimohamed.

On Photography & a writer’s imagination: discussion with award-winning writers: Ethiopian-American Maaza Mengiste; South African Kagiso Lesego Molope; British-Eritrean Hannah Azieb Pool; Vittorio Longhi, an Italian-Eritrean journalist.

Bar opens at 17.00, event starts at 18.30 sharp.
